Miracle Mile 5K
Sunday, January 20 was the Miracle Mile 5K in Los Angeles, CA.
What a fun race this was! Well, the race/course itself was not the greatest. This being their inagural year, perhaps they just have some first-time mistakes to figure out.
We ran out of The Grove in Los Angeles and down 3rd Street. Then we ran though Pan Pacific Park. This was the most frustrating part of this race. The path throught the park was narrow to start with, top that off with the fact that we did 2 laps around the park on this same path. So while we were trying too just fit on this path alone there were 2 lanes so to speak. The first-lap people and the second-lap people so just trying to pass anyone in front of me was rough.
The real exciting part of this race with the competition between Susana and I. Obviously my endurance is getting stronger because I stayed ahead of Susana for about 4 of the 5K. Towards the end I slowed to a walk and Susana pulled ahead. This motivated me to run a bit more and catch up. It basically came down to being neck and neck coming up on the finish line and both Susana and I sprinting to beat each other. In the end, I finished 1 second before she did. It was even captured on film! Check out the pic of us approaching the finish line.
